Fishing for Rocks
Some of you may have been to eastern Tennessee and seen for yourself the fresh water Striper fishing, (Rock fish) or maybe not but if you like to really fight a nice fish, this is something you need to do.
Since I moved to the south I've learned that the "freshies" of Tennessee are where its at. There are some knock down bruisers lurking those rivers and lakes. With regulated power generation dam releases the water temperature and oxygen conditions are almost always right to concentrate fish and keep them healthy with plenty of baitfish.
There are places that have become synonymous with bigger fish, Watts Bar, Melton Hill, Ft. Loudoun and Lake Hickory. In 2023 I'm taking my favorite
St. Croix rods and
Shimano reels and I'm going to push this fresh water Rock fishing to it's limits and try to finally break the 50 pounder class.
December 31, 2022 update: This coming season (2023) we will be starting out in February with legendary Capt. Bill Davis attempting to break my personal best and land a 50 pounder out of Lake Hickory , Tenn. I know that's a high bar but that's what keeps us going back.
Most will never break that 50# mark but Capt. Bill tells me that the big ones are there and in higher numbers than other places. With that most recent info we would be remiss not to log a few days on the lake and test the waters.
Stay tuned and keep checking back ! In the meanwhile scroll on down the page and see some of those Tennessee River Rocks and some from our followers. Tight Lines.
