Poor Mans' Desert Sheep

Poor Mans' Desert Sheep

If you have that sheep fever but a working man's wallet, Texas free range Barbery sheep (Aoudad) is the ticket to scratch that itch.  West Texas affords a healthy herd of free ranging sheep that had been released years ago that are well rooted into the hills of the Ft Davis area.  The challenge to hunt these robust sheep species is as difficult as any other.  To somewhat of a lesser degree than a back-pack hunt in Alaska but challenging non-the-less, you'll be contending with elevation, dramatic temperature swings, snakes and miles of territory to cover.

Take a stroll through some pictures below.  If you treat yourself to an Aoudad hunt I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised.  You'll also get an opportunity at other game that abounds in Texas such as whitetail, mule deer and Javalina.
